The Tracklist Game

I really like your take on the Goodbye Kanan LP. I love how the tracks share similar theme. Reading your post made me want to revisit the Gresham EP. The topics were quite heavy and I can only imagine the pain he went through.. Anyway love your inclusion of Flash in the Light there, one of my favs of ØZWALD.

Okay I wanted to try my take on the 5th and 6th album.

Smoke & Mirrors

  1. All In
  2. In Your Skin
  3. Crash and Burn (1st Single)
  4. Near Life Experience
  5. Don’t Wake Me When It’s Over
  6. Halfway Gone
  7. Smoke and Mirrors (2nd Single)
  8. Highway and Low Days
  9. By Your Side
  10. Paper Cuts
  11. Goodbye
  12. Along The Way (2017)

I think this collection has good combination of the radio-friendly songs and the lively upbeat songs that this album intend to do.

Almeria

  1. Between The Raindrops (1st Single)
  2. Where I Come From
  3. Pulse
  4. Nobody Listen
  5. Rocket
  6. Right Back Home
  7. Nobody Listen
  8. Green is Golden
  9. Always Somewhere Close
  10. Barricade
  11. Aftermath

I still love the 2 closing tracks of the album so that order remains. I put Green is Golden as an experimental slot of an album. I think it works but let me know what you guys think. Putting Pulse & Rocket in as I think the two have the same energy as the other Almeria tracks.

Thanks Snowfist! FITL is a great track; I like the nod to Wash in the chorus, how it uses the identical melody line (in your eye-e-eeee-e-eeees) and in the same key too. Only Jason is allowed to steal from his own work haha.

I love these takes; you brought more folk to both albums which is cool; I think they needed it. Green is Golden is a cool addition to Almería; I wonder how old of a song it is. If Dragonflies was demoed in Feb 2013, perhaps GIG is from that era too?

Alright, getting to my favourite here. After the GK concept album, I wanted to create a Lifehouse rock album again. 2019-2021 was a prolific time for Jason’s music, so I’m pulling from everywhere that was written then and before (knowing that the music often came out a year or two after writing). I present:

2020: Future Wars, the LP

  1. Cut & Run [single 1]
  2. After the Glowin’ [single 2]
  3. Young Bloods [single 3]
  4. Limelight Parade
  5. More of the Same
  6. En Rogue [single 1 b-side]
  7. Some Kind of Magical [single 2 b-side]
  8. And So It Begins
  9. A Couple Runaways
  10. Misfits
  11. Smithereens
  12. Fall, Fall, Fall

These songs all seemed to be about the conflict between the increasing speed of modern society, and the desire we all feel at times to shake the dust of a situation we’ve outgrown. I thought that Future Wars fit as a title: the idea that what’s to come can be both exciting and cause for a pause. The Artificial Odyssey cover really fit the futurism theme too.

As for the list, I mostly combined the 2017 era Lifehouse recordings (Cut & Run, En Rogue) with the full list of Future Wars EP session songs, which were written in 2019 for a short film I believe. This includes the original five, plus Misfits and Fall Fall Fall (which were written at the same time but not included on the EP for whatever reason). It’s my favourite Ozwald release, so I like the idea of having them form the backbone of a full-length album.

Finally, I pulled some of my favourite Oz tracks from the other albums that came out around that time, namely After the Glowin & Some King of Magical from Head Movies, and More of the Same from AO to slow things down a little bit. Lots of great material to pull from, so my goal was consistent messaging and a pleasing flow.

I listen to this set of songs in this order pretty regularly these days – hope you like it!
