So excited!! I’m in Toronto so hoping for something northern… willing to travel for sure!
I’m in MA but would travel a bit to catch one of these!
Hey all, last weekend I won a set of tickets to see Jason and Steve in Charlotte NC – and I went!!
Easily my favourite concert I’ve ever attended. The crowd was wonderful, quiet during songs and explosive when they ended. Maybe 600 people or so. Truly intimate, and Jason said to me outside after the show that he enjoyed the way the setting is more vulnerable when it’s quiet and acoustic with a small crowd.
I think because more people know Lifehouse than Jason’s name, the attendees were die-hard fans rather than those who casually like the music and knew HBAM on the radio. I heard the soft hum of people singing along to Come Back Down when he played it in a medley, which blew my mind as it’s a deeper cut. I heard people singing along to All In All, a deeper cut still, and Simon and many of the older songs that were never radio singles. Chills!
The setlist was wonderful:
Somewhere in Between
First Time
Halfway Gone
Sick Cycle Carousel
You Belong to Me
From Where You Are → Take Me Away
Broken
Butterflies & Parachutes
As the Crow Flies
All of My Life
Falling In
Storm → Three Little Birds → Between the Raindrops
Simon
Breathing → Whatever It Takes
Come Back Down → All In All → Stanley Climbfall → Spin
Everything
//
You and Me
Blind
Hanging By A Moment
And get this… I was told by concertgoers who attended the previous evening that Jason actually played the chorus of You Can Shake the Mountains on request. Insane!!
Lots of great convo, he and Steve are hilarious and are so fun to listen to even when they’re just chatting with the crowd. Felt really relaxed and they were both really talkative which I loved. They introduced Gary the autumn tree on stage, who became the third member of the band. After the show I got a poster and signed setlist (they had them printed), and got to chat with J and Steve for probably 10 min or so. Such lovely souls.
Jason mentioned he’s planning a series of dates in the late fall/early winter of this year likely in NY, Chicago etc. Definitely one for the books, and I’ll be driving to see them again without hesitation soon:) anybody who likes Jason’s music, please do yourself a favour and attend!
Hey all, for those who missed it - Jason has more US shows happening this fall!!! They are:
Somerville, MA (Sun Nov 17)
New York City (Tues Nov 19)
Washington D.C. (Thurs Nov 21)
Philadelphia (Sat Nov 23)
Anyone planning to go? I don’t think I can make this round, as much as I’d like to hear him play Midnight in Philadelphia in Philadelphia. The show in Charlotte was absolutely wonderful:) highly recommended.
Going to the Somerville show and can’t wait. Thanks for sharing that setlist. That’s a pretty good mix of tracks!
You know if he remembered how to play YCSTM, there’s a good chance he might’ve been practicing (re-recording?). Such a beautiful song!
How’s the concert last night? Any surprises? Also, do you happen to record them? Would be great if you can share them
It was awesome! Going through my recordings and will post everything tonight. Recorded the show except the first three (didn’t think to record right away! Darn…)
A buddy of mine took some videos of a couple of songs also.
We ended up arriving about 90 minutes before doors open and there was only about 10-15 people in line. We ended up walking to grab a quick dinner and came back for 7 PM. There were probably 200-300 people in total (all seated). We ended up sitting at a high top table to the left of the stage (Jason’s side).
They had some merch available: large tour posters ($30), t-shirts ($35), handwritten lyrics ($500) and signed guitars with lyrics ($950).
The show itself was great and hearing these songs acoustic was really awesome. The first track, Somewhere in Between, was absolutely beautiful. This used to be a favorite of mine from NNF but I kind of wore it out. This was the first time in 20 years where I felt like I was hearing it for the first time again. Truly surreal experience! I wish I had started recording sooner (started just after Halfway Gone) but I hadn’t planned on it until my friend suggested trying the Voice Memos app on my iPhone. Quality isn’t stellar but it’s on par with most live recordings from the late 00s to my ears.
Here is the setlist from the Somerville, MA show, playing 26 songs in total (some just medleys):
I was really hoping for Simon, or the newly released Eighties, but no dice! They brought Gary with them and shared several stories throughout the show (see Interlude III for some funny parenting stories).
About two dozen or so people waited around after the show hoping for a meet and greet but the venue was locking up and asked us to go outside. The crowd dwindled pretty fast and it was down to a handful of us waiting out front. After a half hour or so, we threw in the towel and left. I was hoping to get my daughters vinyl of Sweet Delirium signed but hopefully they’ll come back around next year.
