Oh my – this is EASILY the closest thing to an unheard Blyss demo I’ve ever heard from J. Blyss era lyrics (no rhyming structure) with a mix of Blyss and pre-yellow record production. And six minutes long!!! Another Joshua basically.
This song would’ve gained a cult following had it been leaked back in the day. Super cool:)
Totally agree! Joshua came to mind when I heard this as well. I love the sound and the guitar effects… absolutely reminiscent of the early Blyss b-sides.
What an amazing song! Love the guitar sound and vocals. Really love the background vocals in the middle of the song when he sings: “it’s all i am” Sounds really Blyss. Nice lyrics though.
I’m glad he put it on the Time Machine for us to listen to.
Jason has released You Belong To Me before this, no?
Tbh, I’m slightly disappointed with the Time Machine subscription. I was looking forward to unreleased songs, demo, or acoustics of fan favs. And I thought I was gonna get at least 2 different songs every week, but as of now, it’s a mixed bag.
That said, there are definitely highlights. Goodnight is one of my absolute fav from him. Really like I Don’t Wanna Go, Dear Mr. Tumnus, The Edge medley and of course Shadow.
I understand producing, recording etc is not an easy task but I had the understanding that he already have like 5,6 months worth of songs to be released. And if I remember correctly, there will be time where fans can also request songs. Wonder when that is…
Originally he mentioned release every two weeks. I thought $4 per release was a bit much, then he started releasing a couple times a week. It’s definitely started slowing down, and the photos, as neat as they are, don’t interest me as much as the tracks.
I’ve been happy with the b-sides but the audio versions of videos is a wasted release IMO. I’d love to hear more of the SCF acoustics and unreleased tracks. I have plenty of requests, too.
Any one remember if Demos Vol. 2 was still in the works? Would love to hear that!
Was thinking the same re: Demos Vol. 2 - I figured this replaced that project. The audio and video being separate releases is less stuff than I thought, but I do feel that getting access to all this old content is cool. Like with Matt Nathanson’s, I may cancel and resubscribe every few months to bulk download content at a reduced price – I’m assuming it never goes away!
And just like that Jason answers our call – What Happens Next acoustic live is up, with the original demo up next week and the reimagined version going on A Likely Story. Woohoo!!!
I liked the song but thought as an acoustic song it was a little too bland for my taste. This version has the full band and shares a lot of sound qualities from the SCF/Yellow era while still remaining a ballad more-or-less. Very cool!
Super interesting eh? Trying to place what year this comes from… J didn’t play it in concert until 2006, so I suspect it would have been made after the yellow record. Love the vibe:)
Either way, I sense this is a Jason demo, as the drums aren’t very Ricky and the bass is simpler than what Bryce tends to play. I’m thinking he played all the instruments the way he did on the 2002-2004 demoes.
This sounds like the old Lifehouse stuff. This full band version sounds very cool. Jason said he wrote this song in the early 2000’s. I didn’t know this song was that old. Thought it was witten between the yellow record and who we are since he played it live during that time. Really love this version.
I’ve been waiting for a studio version for a long, long time. And oh, it doesn’t disappoint. Here’s hoping that there’s more demo/studio versions of unreleased songs in the works.
